Recently I had the privilege of creating this commissioned piece for a lovely couple who wanted something to represent the relationship between the God and the Goddess, so with that brief many stories and symbols unfolded onto the canvas.
One of the stories that came to mind was the Egyptian tale of Nuit and Geb, and then the concept from The Book of the Law that we are “divided for love’s sake, for the chance of union.” I thought that these ideas were particularly powerful, and I began to integrate them into my metre-square painting.
They stand close, almost but not quite touching. The magic that generates between them is something quite special. He is the Sun, and She is the Moon - as the sacrificial king of the harvest, He is the fields and She, as the waters of the mysteries and Queen of the Night, is the darkness of the skies.
I’m so happy that the painting was well received, and I hope to work on more commissions in the future! Anyone who wishes to contact me regarding a commission can send me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or find me on Facebook.
